PEDRO*

Smarter Mobilisation. Faster
Recovery. Better Outcome

PEDRO provides a fully equipped therapy environment in a compact space – directly at the patient’s bedside, using less than 2 m².

Developed to meet the demands of modern intensive and rehabilitative care, PEDRO supports guideline-compliant early mobilisation – individually, safely and effectively.
Its goal: to prevent complications such as muscle atrophy, delirium, pneumonia or contractures, while significantly relieving the workload of nursing and therapy staff.

The result: improved patient outcomes, greater safety throughout the treatment process – and measurable cost savings for healthcare facilities.

PEDRO combines the proven core functions of the Mobilizer® MEDIOR for verticalisation of critically ill, intensive care patients with a range of new, innovative features – specifically developed for use in intensive care as well as in neurological and pulmonary early rehabilitation.

Features & Benefits

For Patients

  • Gentle early mobilisation thanks to Softmotion: All movements start and stop smoothly – without abrupt transitions. The intelligent drive control ensures that the actuators accelerate and decelerate seamlessly, providing a sense of safety and trust – especially for cognitively impaired or sensitive patients.

  • Split leg supports with padded “Quick Release” foot bandages for secure, individually adjustable – and asymmetrical – positioning of the lower limbs (e.g. in cases of fractures or contractures)

  • Automated lower limb movement (e.g. cycling or stepper function) to promote vigilance and support thrombosis and contracture prophylaxis

  • Two individually controllable vibration modules integrated into the footrests for targeted neuronal activation – e.g. in hemiplegia – with randomized frequency to avoid sensory habituation and support vigilance

  • Integrated leg strength measurement to monitor progress, enhance motivation, and support prognosis for weaning potential

  • Cognitive activation via sensomotoric handrail with electronic hand recognition – enabling low-threshold interaction and motivating gamification approaches

  • JYMMiN® integration: Software-based real-time music interaction designed to reduce pain, promote self-activity, motivation, and cognitive activation – developed by the Max Planck Institute for Human Cognitive and Brain Sciences in Leipzig

  • Adjustable to patient height from 150 to 200 cm (approx. 4’11” to 6’7″)

For Clinics and Healthcare Professionals

  • Intuitive operation reduces nursing and therapy workload while increasing efficiency in everyday clinical practice
  • Automated recording and documentation of therapy time and mobilisation measures for billing purposes and staff relief
  • Height-adjustable working and communication level for ergonomic, back-friendly use
  • Cordless lithium-ion battery operation for flexible use without trip hazards and with reduced maintenance – LFP technology ensures increased safety against thermal runaway (Protection class III according to BGV A3)
  • Compact, manoeuvrable design with four 360° swivel casters – ideal for tight spaces and seamless integration into existing workflows
  • Secure positioning and controlled directional movement thanks to central brake and steering system
  • Load capacity up to 150 kg and individually adjustable seat and lying surface for versatile clinical use
  • Digitally adaptable and future-proof with update capability and integration options for additional therapeutic software, such as JYMMiN®
  • Hygienically safe thanks to antimicrobial upholstery covers treated with SANITIZED® technology, easy to clean and disinfect with RKI-listed products
  • Nine color options available for seamless integration into the clinic’s corporate design

Mobilisation in accordance with clinical guidelines

Guideline-compliant** early mobilisation of immobile patients is essential to prevent complications such as muscle atrophy, delirium, pneumonia, thrombosis, pressure ulcers, contractures, and severe critical illness polyneuropathy (ICD-10).

This is exactly where PEDRO comes in: with customisable movement sequences, stable upright positioning – even for patients with impaired consciousness – and targeted activation using advanced technology.
The result: improved patient outcomes, shorter hospital stays, and reduced follow-up costs.

**This approach is based on the S3 guideline “Positioning Therapy and Mobilisation of Critically Ill Patients in Intensive Care Units” developed by the Association of the Scientific Medical Societies in Germany (AWMF Registry No. 001-015, as of 25 July 2023).

Vibration therapy and Verticalisation

Vibratory Stimulation in the Treatment of Intensive Care Patients and in Early Neurological Rehabilitation

Prof. Dr. Stefan Hesse (1960–2016), former Head of Neurology at Medical Park Berlin Humboldtmühle, had the idea in 2014 to equip the Mobilizer® MEDIOR with a vibrating footrest.

Critically ill patients who are immobilised over extended periods in intensive care units are at significantly increased risk of developing CIP (Critical Illness Polyneuropathy), muscle atrophy and osteoporosis.
Prof. Hesse also highlighted that vibration stimuli can have a positive effect on vigilance, neuroplasticity and muscle tone.

The vibratoric stimulation of patients significantly enhances the effects of early mobilisation in the upright (vertical) position.

In collaboration with Prof. Dr. Hesse, we subsequently developed a vibration unit for the Mobilizer® MEDIOR to provide targeted stimulation for severely affected intensive care patients.

With PEDRO, we are consistently advancing this approach: PEDRO is equipped with two integrated vibrating footrests as standard. These allow for targeted, asymmetrical stimulation patterns – for example, to support focused neuronal activation of one side of the body.

The combination of split leg guidance, differentiated vibration and vertical mobilisation opens up new therapeutic possibilities.
